Right way to insert graph or chart from Word document?
I have a content given in word format. I place the document to indesign using Place command. All content is put except the graph / chart.
That graph/chart is linked to source data in excel that I don't have access to.
I manually copy paste from word it resulted as non editable raster image.
I can't paste to Illustrator first too.
I have searched the forum but doesn't get a right answer.
Any help would be appreciated.

i use InDesign cs6 to work on magazine
and now when i try export the magazine to pdf [ Print ] i get this error
and when i try export to pdf [ Interactive ] i get this error
Anyone please can tell me how to avoids this error without change the font or make it outline .

InDesign CC 2014 freezes on "What's New" window
Dear All,
InDesign CC 2014 is freezing up everything when it hangs on the "What's New" window which is completely a blank white. I can't close the application or force quit or do anything else…I have to shut down the computer in order to quit the application or do anything else on the computer -- it is completely frozen. When the computer restarts, InDesign CC 2014 automatically tries to start up again and freezes the computer unless I get to it before it launches and force quit before it gets a chance to freeze again.
InDesign CC is working normally, but I notice that when CC 2014 launches, it also launches InDesign CC with it and both seem to run at the same time. This does not happen when I start from InDesign CC -- only that application is then active.
"I'm also getting an Adobe warning that has begun to appear stating: "Administrator rights are required to complete Adobe add-ons installation or removal" and I'm not sure which application this is referring to or how to log in for these "rights",
Anyone else having these issues? I'm working on a Mac pro.

I have CS6 Master suite installed. All applications work fine except for the online help in InDesign and Illustrator go in to Arabic online help. Does anypne knpw how to change this?

Nested style/Nested Grep for last 2 words
Hi all,
I am running InDesign CS6 on MAC.
I am trying to create a style for a heading so that every two last words from heading have a designated Character style (i.e. heading is written in Light character and last two words from it are in bold). While I can revert the nested style and adding End Nested Style Here command at each heading, I prefer something more automatic. The only post similar to that was dated 2008 and it was for CS3. Not to mention that it was a script. Not much of help.

Help: Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use
I really need some serious help -- can't open my Indesign file. It says "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application." Been working all weekend to finish this project and I just don't know what to do now.
Here's the chronology of events:
1. I saved my document last night, but left the document open in Indesign and the computer on when I went to take a nap. When I Indesign crashed.
2. At reboot, when I tried to open the file (which is in an external drive), it prompted me with the recovery dialog box, with choices of recovering the data or document now, later or discarding the recovery. I chose none and just "x" the dialog box. I thought if I did that, it will open the file anyway. But no, it didn't.
3. I shut down that computer (I was working with CS4 in Windows 7 where this all happened. That Windows 7 is in Macbook with dual boot - OSX and bootcamp with Windows 7. )
4. I tried to open the file this time from my other Windows computer, but all it says is "Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application."
I'm thinking the problem has got to do with my not dealing with the document recovery right after the software crashed. I'd like to know if there's any way for me to get that recovery or at least use/open the file that I have?

Indesign Randomly Disappearing Text & Pictures
I'm having inDesign issues - text disappearing from indesign. Then when i rewrite, it disappears when i export to PDF & open in Acrobat. Random photos disappearing in the pdf. Certain pages can't be deleted & I can't insert pages in certain places. Very weird. Was on 'chat' to Adobe Help for 2 HOURS and I really have no confidence that he knew the program AT ALL. HELP!

Reduced printing in InDesign
I recently upgraded to OS 10.9. I created a document 8.5 x 11 with a bleed and am printing on a 9 x 12 sheet. Before I upgraded it printed fined, now it wants to reduce it. The fit to page box is unchecked. Any ideas?

InDesign quits after network connection lost error
InDesign all of a sudden is crashing with the following error:
"The network connection was lost for the file InDesign SavedData, or the file was modified by another process"
followed by:
Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents." (button) "Return to Finder"
then:
"InDesign quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
Then I get the Adobe Crash Report.
Restarting InDesign gives the same results, both opening a file and opening the application directly.
I have trashed InDesign Preferences and tried throwing away the InDesign Recovery folder, but no change.
Specifics:
-InDesign CS5, ver 7.0.4.553
-iMac Core i7, OS 10.7.4
-I am not in a network environment—all InDesign documents are local.
-InDesign CS4 works okay.

Numbering and sections option starting with 0 e.g 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 etc
Hi everyone,
I can't find a way to number sections of one document with a .0 prefix (InDesign says the value must be from 1 to 9999). For example:
1.0
1.1
1.2
1.3
2.0
2.1
2.2 etc
I have currently overwritten the master page and manually typed the section but on the pdf the numbering is incorrect (as it is controlled by the numbering and sections option).
Is there a solution to this?

How to get solid lines (not dotted) between Indesign CS6 tabs
I am a long-time Indesign user since it was invented. Any time I do fill-in forms (which seems to be frequently) I always end up manually putting the lines between the tabs. I know about tab leaders, but all I can ever find there is a dotted line. I need a way to make the tab leader between tabs a solid underline, but NOT the name, address, phone text underlined.
Any help would be quickly appreciated. It will just save me loads of time if I can specify a solid underline tab leader and then blow through these fill-up forms.

Update/Install external module in Indesign CS4 6.0 for idml file opening
Hi,
Trying to open an idml file (generated with CS5) that I have received, in InDesign CS4 version 6.0 on PC. Message appears "external module missing".
Trying to reinstall version 6.0, new message is external module already installed.
Can't seem to find on existing supports how to get out of these error messages.
Could you please help me and indicate how to open my IDML file ?

How do I add page numbers to a index cross reference?
I have created a 900 page medical reference book with hundreds of index entries. The index now is about 38 pages.
The author originally marked the synonyms to be cross references which I tagged as cross references in the index.
For example it now says "Eagle-Barrett syndrome. See prune belly". The reader would have to flip to the prune belly index entry where it would say "Prune Belly 408", then would then have to go to page 408.
The author would now like to also say the page number next to the cross references so it would say ""Eagle-Barrett syndrome. See prune belly on page 408".
Does anyone have an idea on how to do this?

InDesign CS6: Is it possible to automatically reorder the paragraphs in a document
I have a thesaurus with 1,000 entries.
Each entry looks like this:
also
He likes bananas and also strawberries.
as well as, in addition to, besides,
too, plus
I want to change the document, so that in each instance, the example sentence "(He likes bananas...) comes after the list of synonyms (as well as, in addition to...). The formatting is different for each (one is 100% black and the other is 70%).
I would like to know if there's a way to do this automatically.
