File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other
Firstly - with any file that is repeatedly crashing make a backup of it Immediately!
Option 1
Try to remove corruption using the Export/Save to IDML link to how to here
Option 2
- Determine how many pages in your document
- Export or Print your document in halves, i.e., if it's 200 pages then export or print page 1-100 then page 101-200
- Keep halving the document pages until you find the problem pages, i.e., 1-100 crashes then try 1-50 and 51-100, then 1-25 and 26-50 etc. until you've found the page(s) that are crashing
When you've narrowed it down to a single page or multiple pages try to find out what is causing it to crash you can do this by:
- Move half the items on the page to the Pasteboard (do not delete them) and try to export again, if it crashes then move more items to the pasteboard and so on until you find the culprit(s)
- Recreate the object(s), i.e., if a particular image is causing it to crash, then don't duplicate that frame. You should use File>Place and replace the image within the layout in a new graphic frame.
- Images
- If the file still crashes then you should resave the image as a complete new file name and different file extension, if it's PSD then save as TIFF or vice versa.
- (Note some special file formats like DCS or EPS and PDF should not be opened in Photoshop if they contain vector elements - if you don't know if they do or do not please do not open them in Photoshop)
- Text Frames
- Copy that text and Place it in a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit to strip all the formatting.
- Create a new Text Frame and reimport the text by using File>Import or using Copy and Paste
- Restyle the text to your liking
- Images
Any suggestions, edits or other workflows for files that won't output via print or other method, or will not export using File>Export are thoroughly welcome.

Indesign - Problème d'affichage des menus

Sur Indesign CC, depuis une mise à jour, la taille de police du texte des menus a fortement augmenté ce qui m'empeche de voir une partie des menus habituels.
Pouvez-vous m'indiquer où peut-on modifier la taille ?

TOC, Page number at left if tab is too short
Sorry for the coplex heading, couldn't come up with a better one.
Is there a solution to style the TOC so the page number never ends up on the left side? Everything works fine if the headings listed in the TOC spans over one or more rows.
But if the listed heading ends exact at the end of a row (in the TOC), the page number will appear on the left side of the next row. (I have an ^t between the entry and number in the TOC style.) If a single word in the listed flows to the row below, the TOC correctly adds the ........ (dotted line) and places the pagenumber to the right.
Can I edit the TOC paragraph Style or TOC Style so the number is aligned to right, even though there is no entry before (which is located on the row above).
Example of the problem:
Correct/Normal……………….............1
This titels legth is exact one TOC row

Bringing in illustrator files into Indesign
Hi guys i would like to know what is the best method to bring in files from illustrator to indesign for print.
The file I'm bringing in is a bit detailed with text and graphics and has spot colours applied to it when transferring over to indesign will this effect the colour when i eventually get my printing done?

InDesign 5.5 for pc repeatedly crashes on launch.
Hi,
This morning I launched InDesign as usual, but moments after the home screen appeared, I got an error message which said 'Adobe InDesign CS5.5 has stopped working.' The application then closed. This has happened repeatedly despite numerous attempts to rectify the problem.
I have tried:
- Deleting the RecoveryData and DBSharing files from the InDesign Recovery Caches
- Trashing the Preferences
- Restarting
- Clearing the SING datastore folder
- Removing the SING component
- Using Extensis Doctor to check and identify bad fonts (Bradley Gratis and Univox removed, to no avail).
I am using Adobe CS 5.5 on a pc using Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. It's using a 64 bit operating system, has plenty of memory and is running generally well. I've had this issue with InDesign over the last few years but usually deleting the recovery data and trashing the prefs fixes it. I've never had it simply lock me out before. Apologies in advance - I am a first-time poster so forgive me if I have failed to include anything important. Here is a screen grab of the message. Thankyou.

Changing grid increment default settings in InDesign CS5
Does anyone know if it's possible to change the default grid increment setting in preferences using InDesign CS5? I would like the default to be 4pt rather than 12pt each time I open a new document.

Help with Error Code: 5 in CS 5.5 Win 7
I got an "Out of Memory" message while editing a file and had to use Windows Task Manager to close InDesign. When I restarted InDesign and attempted to open the file I got the message: Cannot open "[filename]". The file "[filename]" is damaged and cannot be recovered (Error code: 5).
I have no backup of the file.
I then tried to open an earlier version of the file and got the same error message. It seems to be corrupting every file I try to open. HELP!!!

How do I re-enable saving and undo functions in InDesign CS6?
Hi all,
Having a very frustrating problem with InDesign CS6 (old software I know but it's what the client requires) whereby the save options are greyed out and I am unable to undo. This will occur within 5-10 mins of using a file.
The issue is not limited to a single file, I have tried multiple files, creating new and reopening archived to test the problem. I'm in an office of 6, CS6 is on a volume licence, I am the only one affected.
I have tried the following to fix the issue:
- Deleted preferences
- Uninstalled (properly) then reinstalled
- Signed out of creative cloud (we also run CC) in case it was causing an issue
- Deactivated and used a trial version
No matter what I do this same issue pops up. I thought perhaps I was being treated as a pirate of the software, hence deactivating and trying the trial version.
The only way I can get round it is to export the file as an IDML, open it, then save over the original. This is a terrible way to work though as I'm still left with no way of undoing any actions and if Indd or my computer were to crash I would have lost any work since my last export.
I'm out of ideas. I'm embarking on a project which will last three months, full on in Indd CS6, I can't afford the time or risk of this issue persisting, any suggestions welcome.

Hyphenation in InDesign CC 2014 - not working
I can not get my hyphenation in InDesign CC 2014 to work. I have it selected in Paragraph styles. I have tried to select all the text and checked the hyphenate box. I have my language selected. I have tried to unistall InDesign and install it all over again. Delete the preferences. Well I think I have tried everything.
I am doing a layout for a book and it just terrifies me to have to manually hyphenate it.

Footnotes and Endnotes- please help!
Hello! I am very frustrated! I am trying to do page numbering and it keeps starting over on my numbers. I think I accidentally put sections in my document, but I can't figure out how to get rid of them, so it starts with iii-iv, then switches to pages 6 and 7, then jumps to 12-53 (it's a long report and I can't keep renumbering everything-- what a hassle!) The worst part is that I am trying to print sections of the report, but since some of my numbers are duplicate, ID won't let me print unless I print the entire doc-- and I can't print 53 pages every time I want to print two for copyediting.
Furthermore, I am trying to do endnotes instead of footnotes and am having a heck of a time. The instructions that I've read are not very clear to me, and I can't get it to work. Again, VERY frustrating.
If anyone can help me I would be greatly appreciative!

How do I copy and paste Chinese text into InDesign CC?
I am having difficulty copying and pasting pre-translated Chinese text into InDesign.
Many of the characters are coming up as boxes in the majority of Chinese fonts offered in CC.

Can somebody please tell me where I can find the option for endnotes in Indesign C6?
I just changed Corel Ventura for Indesign, because they told me it was the best. Editing the first page of my first book with Indesign, I'm finding out that there's no option to use endnotes - only for footnotes. As there are hardly any books without endnotes, I cannot believe this. So I hope somebody can tell me what I'm overlooking?

InDesign CC 2014 crashes when creating alternative layouts. I successfully created alternative layouts in 3 documents, now I cannot create any at all, it just crashes the program.

Automatically add text frames and/or pages
Greetings,
I would like to know if it's possible for InDesign (automatically or via scripting) to add columns and/or pages if the content exceeds the text frame width/height.
The content is imported via the Import XML option. My layout consists of 6 columns per page. When I import the xml in the gray text frame, the frame expands in height overlapping the next text frame instead of "pushing" it, as I want it too. The same goes for the other text frames.
Is it possible to automatically add text frames to fit the content and/or pages?

Logo is fuzzy
I am new to InDesign. I am creating a flyer and everything looks good and clear except my logo. It is clear in Photoshop but not when I place it on my flyer. I ordered a vector from a website and again everything looks really clear and perfect except my logo.
What am I doing wrong?
The logo was saved at 300dpi so it should be good.
Also, when I print the bleed is still showing a border. Is this just my printer? Or did I do something wrong when I set up the document? I think it may jus be my printer but I want to make sure before I go to Office Max and print.
Need help and ideas please.
And again, I am new to InDesign so please speak in lay terms.
