I don't understand why I can't use the software for InDesign CC 2014 when I paid for it. All I see is that I can look at tutorials. I have the student version.

Existing indd...move all text to new layer but preserving original apperance..rasterize all but not text

I have many single layer indesign documents and need to rasterize all objects but not text. Final indd must look like original version. Maybe with some script to move all text to new layer. Can be problem with hidden text bellow objects, images, text on path, effects etc...In this way I can produce pdf from object layer and rasterize it and after that put above that text layer with live text. Simply, I want to rasterize all objects but not text. All text must be a live.
How I can to that? thanks

InDesign: Creating Index Page Numbers in Italics
I am indexing text in a book using the most recent version of InDesign. I want certain of the page numbers to be in italics to be in italics. It would appear that the way to do so is (1) go into New Page Reference, (2) create the topic or topics for what is being indexed, (3) click on Number Style Override, (4) open the menu to the right, (5) click on TEXT - Ital JTR, then (6) then click on OK. Will this work?

Trouble with master pages
I am very new to the InDesign CC software and am trying it out on a trial. I am working on a Mac and have created a book.
I thought all was going well until I imported the 2nd document to the book and realized my settings for Doc 1 were all wrong.
I have checked all the settings I know how to check on both Docs and they appear to be the same. However, I can't get Doc 1
to change.
I have copied the master from Doc 2 to Doc 1…..no go!!
I have made sure all settings are the same.
What am I missing??

text-wrap line art without alpha channel or path
I have seen a tutorial that uses TIFF format images (B&W line art) around which text-wrap is applied.
Do all TIFF images have this property, or just those that have been given the right treatment?
Do any other graphic formats offer this property?
Anyone knows of a tutorial that thoroughly covers graphic formats, the inherent and acquired properties?

Scale from corner
How do I scale an object proportionally (with the selection tool) from a corner? In InDesign CC it scales from the center, and I can´t find out how to change that permanently.

Anchoring an updatable table of contents (frame) in the primary text flow?
I understand that normally, a InDesign table of contents should sit on its own page or in a separate text frame, so it can easily be maintained/updated.
InDesign Help says: “Avoid threading the TOC frame to other text frames in the document. If you replace the existing TOC, the entire story will be replaced by the updated TOC.”
Fine, understood. However, I am working on a project where I need all content (from the cover illustration to the last line) to sit in the master spread’s primary text flow – including the table of contents.
Here’s what I tried: I opened the Table of contents dialog, made all settings and clicked OK. Clicking will now create a new text frame with the table of contents, which is updatable by selecting that frame and using "Update Table of Contents". So far, so good.
I cut this frame and then inserted it as an anchored frame within the primary text flow, just as I would anchor a table, image, etc. However, after anchoring this TOC frame, I cannot update it anymore using "Update Table of Contents". It is just another frame, not recognized as the ToC anymore.
Is there another way of having a "live", updatable table of contents that will float as part of the primary text flow?

Unwanted Color Imported-How do I find the image it's in?
I'm working on a big, 2 color book with lots of imported images. At least one image has imported a third color which I can't see. Without opening 50-60 images and looking, is there a way to find out which image has that color used? It must be behind a solid of the color that is being used. Thanks.

Why does the bleed area look like its multiplied?
In indesign 2014 when I preview the bleed area, it appears as through it is multiplied against the pasteboard colour.
This is kind-of handy.. is it a new feature?
It would be good to be able to turn it off however, - like when I move a block of white text outside the canvas, - it just dissapears.

Pasting cells into tables - what has changed?
Sometime this year something has changed with the ability to copy and paste multiple cells from a table in a Word.doc into a table in InDesign CC. I used to be able to select the same number of cells, copy and paste directly then proceed with formatting. However now If I highlight and copy 12 cells in a Word table then highlight and paste 12 cells in an INDD table, all the 12 cells copy into cell one only. Is anyone able to shed some light on any change I should know about or different way I should be copying into INDD tables? It's a ridiculously time consuming way to be working on multiple tables.

Brand-newbie having trouble with "paste into"
I am teaching myself InDesign using tutorials and just tried to use the "paste into" function unsuccessfully. I have a document with a picture of a dog (a black silhouette) and a picture of a polkadot pattern. I selected and then cut the pattern one, selected the dog, and went to try "paste into" but the option was not available. I rewatched the tutorial and it's exactly what was shown (there was a picture with a pattern that was then pasted into a black airplane photo). Any idea why I wasn't able to do it? Thanks.

InDesign CC2014 – Files saving to incorrect folder?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anybody else is having this issue.
Recently, in the studio I work in, we all switched to CC2014 from CC and CS6. However, since this upgrade, we have been noticing that InDesign files having been saving into a different location than they should be. By this I mean that we are saving them into the correct folder but when we go to find them again, they are not there and are located somewhere else on the server.
Right now, I am trying to work out if it is the Adobe software or the server.

Verso and recto master page issues when dragging/reordering pages - photo, CS6
I'm have a novel/book layed out all as one document (not as ID book) and I used existing master pages and paragraph styles from a previous book.
When a chapter ends on a left (verso) page/side of spread, I want to start the next chapter opener on the very next right (recto) side of the spread. When a chapter ends on a right (recto) side, then I want the next chapter opener to start on the next spead, on the left (verso) side. I am basically using a mater page (2 page spread) for the chapter opener and a separate 2 page master spread for the content pages. I'm trying to achieve a book/novel layout with no blank pages.
I've tried creating 1-page master pages and applying them to "break up" the spreads, but that didn't seem to work either. I do have "allow document pages to shuffle" unchecked.
In the screen shot attached, I have tried to delete the blank page (master set to "none"), but when I do, it just creates another page in its place. When I try to drag and drop the next chapter opener to the right of the last chapter ending, it adds a blank page in front of it and/or deletes one of the content pages. Perhaps the text "threads" are causing issues? Any ideas? Really hoping there is a solution that doesn't include starting over.
I'd be grateful for any tips!

Chapter Headings
Hi all..
New to InDesign, but trying to learn as fast as possible. I'm making a paperback, going well so far. =) Yeah, long way to go. I'm wondering is there a specific way to format the chapter page? How far from the top the header should be, how to always make the chapter page be on the right hand side page? How much space after the header before the text starts?
I'm using Heading2 for all chapter headers, but I'm not quite sure how to set up the style sheet for all of those parameters.

cannot open file, plug in error
Cannot open file error message in InDesign software. PLEASE HELP!!!! Does not support file format, a plug in that supports the file format may be missing. can anyone help with this please??

'Wild card' in find/change changes 'any digit' to '^9' instead of leaving as is.
When doing a find/change search in indd, using the wildcard for any digit (^9), I would have thought that the change would leave the numbers in their original state but it changes them all to '^9' - how can I search a large document & remove a space in all dollar values using find/change - e.g. AUD 3 234 to AUD 3234?

Restart numbering not working for numbered lists created w/ paragraph style
Issue: Numbered lists created with a paragraph style continue numbering from elsewhere in the document.
OS: Windows XP SP2
Software: InDesign CS3
Details: I would like numbered lists to begin with #1 rather than continuing numbering from elsewhere in the document.
If I highlight the list in question, then choose Type > Bulleted and Numbered Lists, the option to restart numbering is grayed out.
If I double click on the paragraph style and examine the Bullets and Numbering options the mode is "continue from previous number." If I change the mode to "Start at 1" every item in my numbered list has the number '1'.
I have no character styles applied and no overrides or local formatting applied.
Seems like the opposite problem from the discussion below:
