Please help! square bullets lost and replaced with '5' when file is packaged for print.

I am using InDesign CS6. I have created a file which includes square bullet points. I created the square bullet points by using the bullets and numbering dialogue box. The pages look correct and the preflight shows no problems. However, when I package this file for print, all the square bullets are converted to the numeral '5'. I tried to work around the problem by converting those sections of text to outlines, but the problem persisted.

 

Is anyone able to tell me why this is happening and how I can prevent it?

Google web fonts, do they print well?

I have a client who is redesigning his website to have google web fonts and wants me to use the same fonts for print materials, does anybody know if they cause any output problems? Or if printer providers complain about them? The fonts are True Type fonts and I am just skeptical to use since they are meant to be used for the web and there is not a Postcript file of each font I can download only True Type.

 

Any comments appreciated.

Can't get interactive elements to work when saving my InDeisgn document to an interactive PDF?

I have created a web Indesign Document in InDesign CS6. It includeds buttons and links to websites. When I save the document to an interactive PDF the buttons don't work. They are working in folio preview.

 

Can anyone tell me how to save to PDF and have the buttons and links work in Acrobat?

Can't download free trial

Hey there, I'm a graphic design student at RIC and need to download a free trial of inDesign and Illustrator, I'm having a really hard time getting the download to work. I've used 2 different browsers, one giving me an 'error 1' and the other doesn't recognize the url code when I select the program I want the free trial of. I talked to Swathi about this and they suggested that I take it to the forums for someone else to help me. This is really annoying and I can't seem to find a solution. I have a brand new macbook, and I've never downloaded these trials before.

Small, but readable font suggestion?

I'm working on a small food product label that has a lot of small copy—primarily directions for use, ingredients, and various other legalese. I'm currently using Arial Opentype regular and bold in a 5.75 point size with auto leading (6.9 pt), but I'd like to go larger. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good font to use for this application? Thanks!

Can't update, can't use InDesign6

I can no longer get my computer to use InDesign 6.  When I start up, a box comes up indicating that Windows has detected a problem and is closing InDesign.  I have tried re-installing and then updating/downloading updates, but the updates won't load.  Has anyone else had this problem?  It may be an incompatibility between Windows and InDesign?

InDesign CC won't save my files

Hi

 

I've been working in InDesign for a week now and since yesterday I started noticing that at times InDesign won't undo and I am not able to save my file. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.

 

Also CC runs very slow. There are times when the program just "freezes" for awhile while InDesign does somethings in the background and only after it is done you can start working again. The pages panel takes ages to load the previews onto the pages and while it is doing so I cannot do anything at all.

 

Starting to think I should have stayed with CS6.

Why can I not export my Indesign file into PDF form?

I have taken off the links and readded them several times but every time I export the file the links are noexsistant in my file just gray boxes with an X inside of it. What am I not doing correctly?

Des blocs viennent de disparaitre...

ils restent actifs, l'habillage fonctionne toujours... mais je n'arrive plus à les sélectionner et ils restent invisibles.

 

Pouvez vous me donner une solution pour remettre tout visible ?

Creating multiple columns in InDesign CC for Mac

I have InDesign CC 9.2 for Mac with the World Tools add-on. Right now I'm typesetting a document that requires one section to be printed in two columns, with the rest of the document appearing normally. On Word it was formatted correctly, but when I placed it in InDesign,  the two columns are one after the other instead of side by side. (I know this is because InDesign formats according to the main document style in the original.)

 

According to InDesign Help, you can change the columns by creating a new text frame. However, whenever I try to use the selection tool, the cursor just shows a lock icon and nothing else happens.

On my preferences I had to uncheck "prevent selection of locked objects" to make sure I could edit from my document templates. If that preference is checked, I can't use the text tool.

 

How can I add the text frame to create the two-column section in my documents?

Unable to set columns under Layout>Margins and Columns

On certain pages in my 40 page document, I am unable to set the number of columns by using Layout>Margins and Columns. The columns option is dimmed out. I have tried to set them on a blank page and pages where columns were previously set (I can see the guides). I am using a single Master for page numbering and it is applied to every page in the document. There are pages where I can set the columns. I've done some page comparison and can't find the setting that might control this. Using InDesign CS6 on Windows. Thank you.

Text Disappearing and limited Undos in InDesign CC

I recently upgraded to Creative Cloud. I have a iMac Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5 I upgraded the OS to 10.9.1 a couple of months ago in preparation. In the InDesign 9.2 CC. My text randomly disappears while I am working on it. I have to click off it then click back where I think it is and send to the front to get it back. Sometimes just zooming in and out will bring it back or other various things. It is not actually deleting the text just the view of it, but I can't work on it if I can't see it. It is really annoying and cutting into my productivity. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, I am unable to do more than 1 or 2 undos where as in CS 5 I could do multiple undos. Is that normal for CC? Is there somewhere you can set the number of undos? I could not find anything under preferences. This is also a problem as I am used to being able to go back a few steps when I change my mind on something.

 

Any help on either issue would be appreciated.

Relinking Images from User to User

Ok so here is the senerio. I'm sorry it's long but I'm not sure how to explaine my problem.

 

I work for a firm and our main client is a fast food restaurant. We have 1000's of food images that we have stored in an image bank on our ptivate server. Let's say I design a menu containing about 50 of these food images. One of the food images is a hamburger. This hamburger is linked to the image on our server and the path is as follows  My_Private_Server/Food_Images/Burgers/burger.eps.

 

Now, we have a freelance designer that is offsite on a different computer and can not access our image bank on our private server. So what we did is gave them an external hard drive that has an identically structured image bank as the one on the private storage. Meaning all the folders and images are identical. Now, we send the freelance designer just the .indd file. They open the document and all the images need to be relinked. So for instance the burger images needs to be relinked from:

 

My_Private_Server/Food_Images/Burgers/burger.eps to

Freelance_External/Food_Images/Burgers/burger.eps

 

And all of the other images need to be changed as well. For instance the soda image (and every image) needs to be relinked from

 

My_Private_Server/Food_Images/Soda/coke.eps to

Freelance_External/Food_Images/Soda/coke.eps

 

How can I relink all these images without having to relink each individual image at a time?

 

Basically what Im asking is there a way to tell indesign, when looking for a linked image, to look in the image bank located in

Freelance_External/ and not the image bank loaded at My_Private_Server/

 

The reason is that we are constantly doing revisions on these documents back and forth and packaging the file and sending all the images back and forth is not an option due to large file sizes.  I'm not sure if this makes sence or not, but if someone can help me that would be great! Thanks!

I have deleted several projects, however, they are still listed in the box that opens when the program is launching.  How can I get rid of the names since the projects and their components no longer exist?

Proportional scaling problem

I have a big indd (400cmx400cm) and when i'm trying to scale a picture using shift, it scales unproportional.

The frame makes a big snapping to some invisible object, and then the issue occurs...

 

Is it a known bug?

Actual vs Effective PPI

I see in the info when I click on a specific link in the links panel two items I don't know how to tell them apart.  Can anyone give me a good explanation of the difference between actual and effective ppi.  Which one is important and which one you really need to pay attention to and why.  I understand that a picture needs to be at least 240 ppi for print.  I've read several articles and just don't really understand.

Preflight panel not displaying / broken

The Preflight panel will not display. Invoking it from the main menu (Window > Output > Preflight), or the bottom of the document window or via the keyboard shortcut - none of them work - the preflight panel appears for the briefest moment and then disappears. No other part of the interface appears to be broken or behave the same way.

 

System

Mac OS 10.6.8, InDesign CC version 9 and Indesign CC version 9.1

 

Previous versions:

Exact same behaviour in CS6 (8.0.1)

Works fine in CS5.5 (v7.5.3)

 

Steps taken to troubleshoot:

Replicated the problem in a Mac OS X guest account.

Replicated the problem after resetting the preferences (as described in Troubleshooting 101 post: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990?start=160&tstart=0 )

Tried disabling preflight (via bottom-of-document preflight menu). Tried creating new profiles.

 

Deleted / reinstalled the preflight profiles?

Not sure how I might do this, but it has occured to me this might be worth pursuing.

 

Using non-standard preflight profiles ?

No, using the supplied preflight profile.

 

Any troubleshooting advice appreciated...
