Build Booklet Page Size Error Message

I am producing a newsletter that will be 17x11 with a double fold for mailing. I will also save it as a .pdf for e-mailing. I set my document up as  8.5 x 11, 4 pages. I've put in all my text and graphics but when I go to Print Booklet, the preview looks fine, the problem is when I select print I get this error message: "The active document uses multiple pages sizes. Print Booklet works only with documents that us a consistent page size." I rechecked and all my pages are set for 8.5 x 11.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Content Collector : Creating ReUsable Elements

I want to create re-usable elements in indesign that have master properties (parent > child), so that when you edit the master the children inherit the changes.

 

I have been trying to solve this using the "Content Collector" tool and have had some success. Some  changes are not being reflected in the child document, however. For example, I have created a container box and put type and images inside it. I grouped the container, type, and image into one object and put it inside the content collector, then placed the grouped object into a new document. I then moved the image a few pixels to the left inside of the containing box, but that change was not reflected in the child documents.

 

I need a method in indesign where I can create elements (a group of type, images, and containing boxes) from a master document, apply them to child documents, and then have changes to the parent elements be reflected in the corresponding child elements in other documents. What is the solution? Thanks for your ideas!

Does printing pages with Ai links take longer than PSD links?

Hi,

I'm reconstructing an old document originally developed with PageMaker.  I've recreated a half dozen pages hopefully with more uniform techniques.  The original line art for the pages was created in AutoCad and some were scans.  To bring them into InDesign some of the art is now in psd format and some of the newer art is in Illustrator AI format. 

 

I've noticed that the pages with photoshop art print pretty quickly (about 30 seconds).  The ones with Illustrator art take much longer (about 1:30 seconds). They go through a flattening process. 

 

I print these 50 page books on demand and that additional time would add about an hour. 

 

I guess the question is whether this is normal and to be expected or not.  If it is I'll likely turn everything into raster before going into InDesign.  That, however, seems like quite a bit of extra work.  Going from AutoCad to Illustrator (to add stroke) then to PhotoShop to change to raster and then into InDesign seems like a pretty convoluted work flow. 

 

I'm hoping to get some insite so I don't build a bunch of pages only to find out I did them in the wrong way. 

Any help would be appreciated.

Problem with importing Word document

Master Pages Threading Problems

I have three master pages: one for blank pages with graphics boxes to insert graphics this works well as expected. I have one for Chapter pages containing two text boxes one with a section mark for chapter numbers (this does not work) and one with a text box that starts half way down the page like the third master which is a body text master the text frames do not auto flow they don't even load text.  The text frames on the masters allow me to add text but if I add text to a page with the master applied to it - it will not load the text it instead attempts to create a new text box with no auto flow as I have 600 pages of text to add I can not manually text flow each page.  Additionally I don't not have individual documents for each chapter section and have to use paste or paste in place from the cutting board to drop the text in.  I have tried the shift and option uses mentioned in the text book.  My teacher has not responded and I am not well accustom to the program enough to understand most of the technical terms i have found in other forum threads.

Right handed page in document has moved up

I am working on a document provided to me by my client. There are 120 pages within the document. Page 53 has moved up about 1/4 of an inch next to the left page 52. None of the other pages in the document appear to have moved like this one. I checked the master pages and they are situated right next to one another as they should be.

 

Is there a way that I can fix this?

Hello! Is it possible to have multiple animations attached to one object?

I would like to make an object appear (one animation) and then have it move around (another animation) but can't seem to find a way to apply more than one animation to a single object.

 

Can anyone out there help?

Pictures/Photos/Images in InDesign

Hi all!

 

I have been using InDesign for about a year now, and I have never faced a problem like the one I am facing now and have been facing over the past couple of days.


I have a project which entails me putting some custom designed calligraphy [originally done in PS] into my InDesign project. Usually, whenever I have had to put an image or photograph into InDesign, it has happened smoothly and the file has retained its quality when exported as a PDF. However, this time round, the calligraphy is all blurry and fuzzy in spite of the original being very clean.

 

Any clues as to what the problem is?

Printing problems

"The card is low resolution and has a file size of only 81kb.  The file size, to be high resolution, needs to be much higher, at least 1mb.  With low resolution, the card

will print with a blurry or grainy appearance"

 

I have tried to fix this and the printer is still coming back with the same problem. What do I need to do in indesign to get 1MB resolution?

Our agency is currently on Office 365 SharePoint Online 2013.  One of our graphic designers is getting an error message about her permissions not allowing her to make changes when she opens indd files.  Is this a known issue, and if so, how can it be fixed?

Buttons to Page Destination Disappear after clicking

I have a column of headers on the left side of my document that upon clicking, take me to the appropriate page. I click on the first two and it work beautifully. But I click on any others and the list and although it takes me to right page, all of the buttons disappear. Anyone know why this might be and how I can fix it?

Data merge exports to multiple PDFs all uniquely named from data

I’m looking to automate data merge to create multiple PDFs per row of data (each PDF would have 10 pages) and with each PDF being named uniquely based on a column in the data.

 

Specs:

  • InDesign document with multiple pages (10 pages).
  • CSV with 100 people.
  • I want to have a PDF for each person (100 pdfs).
  • Each PDF will be a 10 page document for that person.
  • Filename for each PDF should contain a single person’s name; to know which PDF to send to which person (report_john_doe.pdf).

 

Roadblocks I’m hitting:

  • Data Merge that generates multiple InDesign docs; great but how do I automate them to then export to PDF + uniquely name the file based on a row/columns from the CSV?
  • Data Merge to Export PDF; this creates one PDF with every person in it.

 

Software:

  • InDesign CS6
  • Acrobat Pro

 

I’ve searched around on the forums but it has been a bear to figure it out. Old scripts, 404 pages, certain functionality missing, and no step by step walkthrough to figure out how to use said script.

Problems with new Blurb Plugin for InDesign

Hi

 

tried to upload my ebook yesterday from INdESIGN  having upgraded the plugin.

Immediately got into problems

 

error 1 unable to find color repatedly pops up

 

error 2 cant write png insufficient memory, try adjusting png export settings

 

sigh, one years work...anyone got an answer?

Indesign crashes on startup

First InDesign crashed on starting up with a message a major error ocurred.

Could not getting running after several attempts. It kept crashing. Also on opening a document or just launching InDesign.

 

Reinstalled indesign ( I am using CS6 ). Now it does not even start. On start up it gives the message: InDesign unexpectatly quit.

 

It worked fine till a few days ago. Just working on some documents.

 

What is te issue?

Checkerboard pattern?

I'm using a chekerboard pattern on a business card design and I want the pattern to be visible, but subtle. Basically, I'm overlaying a white checkerboard pattern overtop of a solid black background. The white checkerboard is set to a transparency of 5%, which I think should yield a 95% black for every other square. Do you think 95% is enough to pull this off or should I go a little lighter?

 

BTW, the reason I'm asking this question is when you use the separation preview in InDesign CC, any screens that are 10% or less don't show up in the preview, which made me nervous.

"PB" Instead of "1" in Data Merge Palette

I have five text boxes residing in the pasteboard. I inserted a data merge field in all five. In four of the five, the number 1 appears in the data merge palette. However, for the data merge field in one text box, PB appears in the data merge palette. What's up with that and I do I get it to change to 1? I can drag the text box onto the document and it changes to 1, but I need it to be a 1 when the text box is in the pasteboard like the others.
