GREP - Select full line

Hello everyone,

 

I've been looking for an answer to my problem all day, and I finally resign myself to asking here.

 

First of all, here is what my text looks like :

 

Name↲

Function

 

or sometimes :

 

Name↲

Function↲

Function

 

And, I managed to get this by using Search and replace ^n to ^p :

 

Name¶

Function

 

I have two paragraph styles : StyleName and StyleFunction. The later is what comes automatically after StyleName.

Therefore, my first solution was to select the text, to right-click on StyleName and "Apply style then next".

It works, but since I can't use Alt+a to select everything (I have other styles), I would like to use GREP.

 

My question is this one :

How can I select only the Functions to apply my StyleFunction ?

 

Functions are alway after a paragraph mark (or a return at first).

I had the feeling I have to use positive or negative lookahead or lookbehind, am I right?

An AI file placed on my Master Pages in InDesign doesn't display properly, can you help?

Hi,

 

I am currently using InDesign CC 2015 on an iMac (not using InDesign CC 2017 as I found in my bigger documents I was getting the Coloured Spinning everytime I made even the smallest changes). I have a 32 Page document using 4 sets of Master Pages. I have placed an AI file in the bottom corner of both my left and right Master Page along with Page number and contact details etc. on all masters. When I view my pages on some the AI views perfectly and on other pages I only get a portion of the AI File. I have deleted the Master Pages and recreated them, I have resaved the Illustrator file to a smaller size as I thought perhaps I was reducing the file too much. I even recreated my file in the hope I could fix it but as soon as I add information onto pages the logo disappears.

 

I can create a PDF of my file and everthing is perfect, but when I am viewing my file on screen the logo keeps disappearing. I have used the same logo on pages throughout the catalogue and don't have an issue with them, it is only if it appears on the Master Page that I have a problem with it.

 

PLEASE HELP ME...

Hello all, I'm currently on the lookout for a freelancer who can help with a client of ours

 

We have a specialized process for creating large directories which involves merging large datasheets from Excel into InDesign templates, then cleaning up any discrepancies to make the completed books look presentable

 

If anyone here is knowledgeable in this area, I'd be really interested in talking to you.

 

Here is a list of other preferable skills;

Creation of books from multiple documents

Indexing and cross-references

Optimal use of style sheets

Data-driven page construction (Data merging and subsequent formatting)

Some Illustrator knowledge

Knowledge of languages, including Indic, Asian and Right to Left languages (preferable)

Font List Jumps

Once I have some text highlighted on my document I like to test out different fonts. For example, the text starts out as Minion Pro and I'll be testing out other fonts by scrolling through the font list and pressing Command or Option. While I'm doing this it jumps back to Minion Pro and I have to keep scrolling back through the list. Is this a glitch that hasn't been fixed yet or is there a way I can avoid this from happening? Thank you.

Hyperlinks

I am creating a very long document with a Table of Contents that I want to link to specific pages. I set up all of hyperlinks in the InDesign file, but when I export the book to an interactive PDF, somewhere it is adding in other hyperlinks to other pages that I do not want to link to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already tried changing my preferences in Acrobat to not create links from URLs.

Hallo, mein Chef möchte ein Programm, das möglichst viel kann. Wir haben sowohl eigene Druck-Publikationen, wofür sich InDesign anbieten würde, als auch verschiedene Webseiten, die wir für unsere Produkte erstellen möchten. Welches Programm von Adobe kann sowas? Mein Chef meinte irgendwo gehört zu haben, dass das mit InDesign geht. Ich könnte mir nur vorstellen, dass man das Layout für eine Webseite erstellen kann, aber mehr auch nicht. Ich bin leider ein ziemlicher Laie, was das anbetrifft, also entschuldigt bitte, falls diese Frage unprofessionell ist.

Falha ao exportar o arquivo PDF - Indesign

Olá, estou tendo esse problema ao exportar um arquivo PDF do meu Indesign 2017 (v. 12.1.2.56). Jé estava apresentando esse erro antes de atualizar a versão. Atualizei para esse versão na esperança de resolver o problema, mas continua com o mesmo erro. Alguém pode me ajudar?

Best method in creating large amount of indesign documents and exporting to PDF

Hi there

 

I'm trying to find the best method in creating a large amount of indesign documents and exporting to PDF quickly and effectively.

 

Here's the project details:

I need to create installation instructions for my employer's products. It will be 2 pages with written content and lineart drawings. I have the template set-up in indesign already for one of the products (see below) but now I need to insert the data for the rest of the products into the template (we have over 200 products) what would be the best way to proceed? Right now, I'm just copying and pasting the written content from a word document but hoping there's another method? Any insights will be helpful, thank you!

Remove Index Entries Under "Empty" levels

Hello,

I'm having issues working with an index handed over to me be a few other designers (ie. it has changed hands a few times) and I'm new to indexing as well. When I generate the index for this document it is pushing some entries to the next line and/or inserting leading between page numbers for entries. I think I've found out why this is happening but I don't know how to correct it.

 

There seem to be empty levels under which the actual page listing is sitting. How do I remove the empty levels without having to re-index the entries that this happened to, and how does this happen to begin with so I can avoid it in the future?

Graphics disappear when moving them in InDesign

I have an end-user that is experiencing problems when manipulating graphics. For ex. when the user moves a graphic in the document it will disappear temporarily.  If they zoom in or out on the document the moved graphic will reappear.  This issue will not occur if the view specific to the image being moved is set to typical.  When that setting is set to high quality the issue occurs.  Do you think this behavior could be attributed the graphics card?  This machine is a heavyweight HP workstation see specs below.

 

OS - Windows 10 Ent 64bit

CPU - Intel Xeon CPU E5-2670 v2 @ 2.50GHz

RAM - 32GB

GPU - AMD FirePro V3900  1GB RAM

HD - 500GB

Surface Pro 4 and InDesign

I don't think anyone is going to be able to help with this, but I did want to let other know.

 

I have a new Surface Pro 4.  InDesign is unable to read the gestures, such as pinch and drag from the trackpad.  I have contacted support and was told that InDesign is not compatible with the Surface Pro and that perhaps this will be addresses in new releases of InDesign months from now.

Upon opening random INDD files, INDD freezes (never-ending spinning wheel)

For some files, it works fine, for other files, it simply freezes and never loads.  I don't have any other way to describe this and I have absolutely no idea why this happens.  It feels completely at random.  There is one consistency, however, if a file won't open, it never will, it will always cause INDD to freeze.  Please help!

 

Additional Info:

 

- Purchased INDD file from Envato Market
- Other files which do work were also purchased from Envato

 

 

On rare occasion, it will freeze upon startup as well.

Can I change colour of page border?

This is probably one of the more stupid questions (and I am sure the answer is staring at me), but here goes:

 

I appreciate that you can set colour for bleed and slug area etc. – but is possible to change the colour of the actual page area.

 

My reason for asking is that I would like to differentiate easily when I have a document with black "bleeding off" page.

Resizing entire document

I have a document that is 24 x 36". There was a recent change and now the size is supposed to be 22 x 28". How do I resize the entire document while resizing all text, masters, and images (appropriately and proportionally)? Can that be done?

InDesign Randomly Crashing

Latest version of InDesign on a 2013 27" Mac OS Sierra. 

 

InDesign has recently just started crashing.  There's not memory overload or anything going on with the comp.  It just randomly crashes while working on projects.

File created in 2009 & modified in 2015: Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application.

I have not seen this particular issue addressed for this error message, so I am opening a new thread.

 

I've been using Creative Cloud ID since 2013. I recently began receiving the "Either file does not exist…" message on a number of files when I double-click to open them directly in ID. These files were created very recently or years ago. Some have been modified and saved at various times through the years. Others were newly created in recent weeks. I am able open all of the files using all other menu or keyboard methods (Open, Open Recent, command-O) and also via Bridge. I have no problem working on or saving them once they are open, only opening them by double-clicking directly in ID. The files are from various, unrelated projects and are saved to various, unrelated folders. Meanwhile, all files from just one particular folder open directly using the double-click in ID with no problem!

 

What could be causing this? How can I rectify it?

ID CC 2017 crashes when 'edit original' is clicked - need a fix

Just installed CC 2017 on new Win 10 with 4.0 CPU, Graphics Accel and 32 GB ram. After CC apps are running for a few hours, clicking 'edit original' causes ID to freeze then crash. I have deleted the prefs. No affect. Restarting ID does not help. Only fix is to reboot. Had been running CC on Win 7 for several years. Never had this problem. Very annoying.

InDesign CS4 crashes when "Edit Original"

This has happened SO many times, but not always, that I'm really getting furious.... Too many times when I select a link, go to the Link palette, tight-click and scroll down to "Edit Original" or "Edit With" --- our infamous beach ball shows up and the program crashes.... It seems like the program has some "good days" and some "bad days" ...... When I launch it on one of those "bad days" it will insistingly crash while trying to edit the link, and it's practically impossible to use this feature without crashing....

 

Please,  HELP !

The apostrophes and question marks disappear when I place text???

I am setting up a book layout and I saved the first chapter as a plain text document. I then set up my paragraph styles and page layout. I used 'place' to put in the text but now anywhere where there was an apostrophe or a quotation mark, there is just a large space. I have tried changing the fonts, changing aspects of the paragraph styles, and remaking the plain text file. There don't seem to be any problems until I go to place the text in the document. I was following a tutorial but this is my first time doing a book layout so I'm unsure what's wrong. I am using InDesign CC 2017.
