Is there a way to apply a master page to even (or odd) pages in a long document?

I'm taking a very simple, large pdf document and bringing it into InDesign to add some graphics. The pdf is actually a customized 2-page document for a large employee group (i.e. pages 1 and 2 are for employee001, pages 3 and 4 are for employee002, pages 5 and 6 are for employee003, etc.).

 

I've found a script that allows me to bring in all the pages of the pdf at one time, provided I've set up the correct number of blank pages in InDesign. What I'm looking for now is a way to apply a master page to all even numbered pages at one time. Or all odd pages. Anyone have any ideas?

 

Ideally, an option that would import the entire pdf document, add the appropriate number of pages to the InDesign document, and be able to assign different master pages to even and odd pages would rock! Help!

Check Spelling Panel Top Bar Hard to Read

Hello,

I'm using CC 2017 and noticed recently that the top bar in the spell check panel is very difficult to read. I have not changed anything but I may have recently updated InDesign. I tried changing the interface color but it looks the same for all. Hoping it's something simple, I'd appreciate any help.

InDesign CC - Export document to PDF and the colored rectangles become transparent

Greetings,

 

I am currently creating a brochure on InDesign CC. For some reason when I export the document to a PDF, the color rectangles that I am using as a background turn transparent. This happens when I have the background in either the A-Master pages or the regular pages. At first, it seemed like the solution was to change the layers around to make sure that the background is in a layer for it to be visible. But, this temporary solution is no longer working. I read other forums where people said it might be because the color I am using is a paper swatch or paper color. However, I do not think the color is a paper swatch color. Below you can see what the InDesign layout looks like versus the PDF that I recently exported.

Unique ID on interactive PDF, is it possible?

Hi there,

Im stucked on indesign when i try to put on pdf template one unique ID or date and time (07JMAY172141) like as used on forms, example above:

It is possible to do this, when everytime i open a pdf template saved on my computer? Or i need to add some anothers methods to can do that?

InDesign won't launch. (no error message)

Hi there,

 

A few days ago my InDesign was working just fine, but now I cannot open it for some reason. I try to launch the app and my mouse turns into the one with a loading circle next to it and disappears after a few seconds, but nothing happens after that. I check my task manager and I see that Indesign is there as a background process and disappears later on with nothing happening. I tried reinstalling it and I encountered a problem that has the error code 184. I did all the solutions to that and managed to install it again, but it's literally doing the same problem that I initially had so I have no idea what to do.

How do I get the dropdown window in my control panel to change a font?

I just updated indesign cc today and now when I try to change a font the only way that I can access my fonts is by clicking on "type" then "font".

There used to be a drop down bar to change the font in the controls bar at the top of the page when I was using the type tool. I'm sure there is a simple solution but I just can't figure it out. Please help, thank you!

My document continues to be problematic. I want to replace "Note" with "note" to make the word small caps throughout. Find/replace shows either a "cannot find match" box or no changes are made. I am not searching for style attributes, only the word.

InDesign CC 2017 unbearably slow on mac

Hi There,

 

InDesign 2017 is so slow it's unusable, I get a 5-10sec spinning beachball every 5-10sec. I've seen similar posts so have tried:

  • Disabling GPU acceleration
  • Turning off advanced type rendering
  • Splitting longer files
  • Using lower display resolution settings on links
  • Saving and working off the InDesign file locally

 

It's been like this since updating to CC 2017. My documents are not big (1-5 pages) and they're really nothing special, type, images and eps links.

 

Is this a known issue or are there a set of prefs which returns performance to 2016 levels?

 

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Can't reproduce certain colors in CMYK

Hello,

 

 

I’m currently working on a trifold folder in Indesign. I have received a couple color codes from the customer.

 

  • RGB: 132 238 171
  • #90EEB2
  • #AED9DA
  • #AOC1B8
  • #7BD4CC
  • #8BCBC8

 

 

I’m working in a CMYK document, but the RGB color and some of the hexcodes can't be reproduced in CMYK. Indesign always gives me a warning that the colors are situated out of the gamut. These colors are than replaced by the closest CMYK colors.

 

I have tried to convert to RGB, but here I also receive the same warning. I have also tried to enter these colors in Adobe Kuler in order to enter the CMYK values in Indesign. But than again Indesign choses the closest CMYK colors.

 

 

Does it have something to do with the color settings in Bridge? My color settings are currently set to Europe, general purpose 3.

InDesign crashing

Yesterday, after putting it off for awhile, I did a basic system update on my late 2015 Mac. Not sure if it's related, but ever since the update InDesign crashes regularly, pretty much any time I am trying to work on a document. It doesn't matter which document--it does it no matter what I am working on. No spinning wheel, just a frozen mouse--I can't do anything except hold down the power button and restart. I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling InDesign. Can't seem to find answers elsewhere--at a loss right now. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!

I am experiencing some wrist pain using my mouse. Is anyone using a pen/tablet while working with InDesign? If so, what does our workspace (keyboard, tablet, monitor) look like?

Indesign / Interactive PDF – Links in pop-up boxes (nested links) not working

Hi,

 

Hoping someone can help. I am creating an interactive PDF using Adobe Indesign CC. I am creating pop up boxes and I require to have links with in these pop-up boxes. However when I export (using Interactive PDF) the links don't work. They work outwith the pop-up box. Is it possible to create a link in a pop-up box? If so can someone kindly advise how, ideally in Indesign?

Issue importing image feed from web via csv

Hello community,

 

I'd like to make a brochure in InDesign using a live-csv-file, which has image links embedded. When I create an InDesign-file with the csv-data, the images are declared as missing. The report shows local paths from the direction, my csv file is saved in, while the links saved in the csv file are weblinks to the images in our online shop. How do I get these images in my InDesign? Please help me.

Working with Syriac in InDesign CC

I'm using InDesign CC (2017) and I need to write Syriac in a document. I am able to get the characters to bind together correctly (changing to Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer). However, I am not able to change from Left-to-right direction to Right-to-left direction (Syriac is written from right to left).

 

Any help on this is very much appreciated.

Interactive PDF buttons working when viewed in Chrome but not Acrobat

Hi,

 

I've built an interactive PDF using InDesign. It has a lot of buttons, 162 on one page. 54 of the buttons are used as triggers to reveal 2 buttons each.

When exported, all of the buttons work as they should if viewing the PDF in google chrome. When viewed in Acrobat, 4 of the triggers do not reveal the buttons linked to them. I have entirely built the InDesign document from scratch 3 times now to rule out any human error. The main annoyance is that it works perfectly in chrome, just not in Acrobat (which is my clients default PDF reader).

 

Has anybody experienced anything like this before? Or alternatively, can anybody think of a work around or different way to programme this?

Hi, I ran the available updates yesterday and this morning InDesign crashes every time I try to change a font, any font! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best way to insert multiple images (hundreds)

I'm working on a class listing for a conference program. There is an icon key with six 10 pt. images and each class uses anywhere from 2-4 images in its description. When finished the six images together will be likely used 100 times.

 

I'm assuming copy/paste will not insure quality. I should instead place the image, correct? If so, what is the most efficient way to place these images, considering time, document size and quality?

InDesign TOC does not recognize my selected Paragraph Styles

Background: I am using InDesign CS5, and am laying out a 450+ page book. I have it laid out two ways: all as one document, but with some unlinked text boxes (yes, I'm an old PageMaker user, learning InDesign!), and as a Book, with separate documents in a Book. I have used Paragraph Styles for all my text.

 

The Problem: ...is that when I create a TOC (in either of these documents), and select which Paragraph Styles to include in my TOC entries, the resulting TOC only has a header, but nothing else. I've read and reread how to create a TOC and have done it in the past, but am completely stumped as to what is keeping the TOC from generating correctly.

 

Also, I've read that the TOC must be a separate text box, and not link with the rest of your text. When I haven't done this, and my TOC generates, it not only doesn't have any content, except the header, but it also eliminates ALL my text (all 450+ pages).

 

Several versions ago I DID have a TOC, which I decided I didn't like, and instead of altering it, I deleted it, and started my TOC over. Could this be causing the issue?
