Is there a setting that will allow me to double click a customer supplied InDesign file, and have it only open in the vesion it was last saved in?
When I set my custom pallets and their location in InDesign CS6, the verticle length of the pallet group remained constant regardless of resizing the length of individual pallets within the group. For instance, if in CS6, I had the color, swatches, stroke, gradient, effects, and text character pallets arranged vertically with the entire pallet arrangement locked to the dock at the top and the total height adjusted so the bottom of the pallet arrangment is near the bottom of the screen, I could resize any of the pallets in the arrangement (the swatches pallet, for instance) and the remaining pallets in the arrangement would resize so as to maintain the total height of the arrangement. In InDesign CC, the same activity pushes the bottom of the pallet arrangement off the bottom of the screen when any of the pallets within the arrangement are resized larger (again, like the swatches). I do this to avoid excessive scrolling within the swatches pallet when I'm making color changes. What's annoying in InDesign CC, is that doing so, expands the bottom of the arrangement off the screen, which then hides acces to the other pallets toward the bottom of the arrangement. Is this a bug in InDesign CC, or am I missing something?
I have added some black text to an InDesign document and added a white outer glow around the text to make it stand out better as it was on a blue background (Pantone 7461C). It looks absolutely fine on screen (both in the InDesign and PDF versions), however when I print, a slightly lighter blue box appears around the text (kind of like it has a translucent outline around it). I also noticed this happen with a PNG image that I inserted, which had a transparent background. I replaced this with an EPS, which corrected the problem. However, I cannot seem to solve the issue with the text!
I also tried a couple of different text effects, as I wondered if the white glow was too harsh and was causing the problem. When I tried a black drop shadow and a yellow drop shadow too, I also had this problem. So it would appear this is happening on all text effects!
I don’t think that it is a problem with the printer, as we recently had a company print some leaflets and this problem also occurred.
How do I resolve this, as it’s becoming quite problematic? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Here’s the quick background story…. Just finished a 100 page product catalog and then Packaged it for archive purposes. For what ever reason, (probably insanity) I accidentally saved the archived .indd file over the original .indd file. So all the links in this archived version are directed to the “links” folder as it should be, but so is the original .indd file now.
I’m looking to relink all the images to their original paths and when you get a group of images in one folder then it’s great, all of them link up (when you have “Search for missing links in this folder” checked. The issue comes when I have multiple sub-folders. I would love it if InDesign can search ALL subfolders for those missing files. For example, I know all or most of the products are in one main folder but there are many sub-folders with in this one. Broken down by Vendor name and product series. If it were able to see all the sub-folders it would most likely find that missing link. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this, with either a plug-in or script?
Any help would be appreciated. Thx!
I just upgraded to Adobe Indesign CC and now all of my file icons have turned into a white, generic-looking icon. Can anyone tell me how to get the icon to look like the Indesign icon again? Thanks in advance.

How do you get row and column strokes in a table to appear perfectly joined? When I choose "Column Strokes in Front" (Under Table Setup) i still see a tiny row stroke, and vice versus.. it's really visible in the PDF almost can't see it in InDesign though you can a little...
There is a very useful discussion (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4269565#4269565) on getting a paragraph style (e.g. for headings) to produce Title Case by specifying a Grep style (which comes down to using a caps character style and the grep expression \s\S). Is there a way of restricting this to words of four or more letters? That would produce a better Title Case, without 'by', 'a', 'an' etc. having a capital. That discussion does suggest a list of exceptions, which works, but my list is getting rather long.
I'm seeing slight color changes in RGB JPEGs created by the ePUB export when when Image > Preserve appearance from layout is selected.
I compare JPEGs in Photoshop. Before and after files are untagged RGB (created in sRGB space).
Anyone else notice this?
For comparison, I've also used Zevrix's LinkOptimizer to export cropped, resized JPEGs. The files resulting from that have no color change from the original.
Same with using Photoshop's Save for Web: resulting image file has same color as the original.
Looks like InDesign is doing something different in the ePUB export.
Guys,
Is this possible. 2 Simple Text frames on a page, one directly under the other. When I start writing content into the first text frame, it grows vertically down the page. Brilliant, howewer it then starts to overlap the 2nd text frame. Is there any way to make the 2nd frame start to move vertically down the page as the first frame grows?
It justs that I putting a catalog together for a horse show that contains 100 classes, with entries in each class. So to start I created the spread with 20 pages, with a text box for eaxch class. However I have no way of knowning how many entries i wil get in a class, so as the entries come in, i start populating each text box (i..each class) and of course the text boxes are going to start overlapping each other. I don't want have to go and move all the text boxes on each pages down a bit to make move. This will take for ever.
So for example, I start typing in the very first text box. I get a crazy amount of entries. I put the entries in, it grows vertically down the page, of course it going to start hitting the boundary of the 2nd text box, is there any way to make the text boxes after the 1st one to move automatically down the page
Is this possible
Thanks
Gary
Would Indesign give me any faster screen drawing with a faster GPU? I have a Mac Pro at work that has the standard GT120 card in it and it seems much slower than my Windows 7 home system, which has a GTX 570. I was thinking of upgrading the GPU thinking that was what made the difference though it may be that my home machine has a 3930K CPU, 32GB of RAM and an SSD.
I have documents I work with that have several thousand pages with PDFs on each page. When I turn on high quality screen draw it is painfully slow on the Mac at work.
I've been reading all the other threads regarding slow typing in InDesign, but I haven't come across any about the problem I am experiencing. My problem is that typing becomes progressively slow when typing in certain text frames, i.e. it is fast when I begin typing in the empty frame, but as the text frame fills with text, it becomes slow.
I am using two types of text frames on each page in my document: one with no styling whatsoever, and the other with an object style including a border, two rounded corners, and margins. This progressively slow typing occurs only in the second type of text frame.
I am typing a relatively small (7MB, less than 300 pages), text-only file with no columns, cross-referencing, pasting from other applications, linking of text frames, or any of the other usual culprits for slow typing that I have been reading about. Nothing else in InDesign is slow, including typing in the other type of text frame (without borders, etc.).
Any ideas?
Hi, okay so the best way to explain would be to describe the outcome I want to achieve...
On the same image (photograph), I want it split into a normal 100% 'transparent' image on the top two 3rds, and then the last 3rd to be 'sliced' smoothly across in a swoosh/wave shap.. this section being the slightly 'transparent' part.
Hopefully this makes sense! I have been messing around for ages on indesign, photoshop, illustrator... I know you can erase part of the image in photoshop and then in 'fade eraser' bring some of it back. But I really want a smooth cut line, some thing ideally acheived within illustrator for precision....
Anyway.. any ideas!?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Hi there,
I have duplicated all of the files and the folder structure in an ID CS4 project that contains 40 chapters organized under a book file. I renamed the parent folder to indicate a new version.
When I open the book file in the duplicate folder structure and open one of the chapters, ID opens the chapter file from the original folder.
How can I edit my book file to point to the newly duplicated files in the new folder structure?
I haven't found a discussion on this subject nor does my CS4 Bible seem to mention this. Am I trying to do something that shouldn't be done at all?
Thanks,
Peter H.
Not just turned off, apparently, but gone completely -- Photoshop is kind enough to tell me it is not installed. I tried restoring the CS6 folders from a backup taken 12 days ago when I know it was working because I actually used it after that point, but no luck.
It does work on my laptop, but I can't find a plugin to copy. Anybody have a clue what file(s) I need? Win7 x64...
Arguing that some changes to a reprint page or other elements could be changed.
But this involves give also the cooking of the files. (Inventions, personal formulas, Greps, etc)
How to resolve this as the PDF does not sound good enough for him?
It is a very good thread to this in
http://aigasf.org/community/legalities/do_you_have_to_give_your_freela nce_client_your_digital_files
but in the legal matter.
Hi all,
I am working with some very long documents with tons and tons of images. Often I need to view the name of the image in the links panel but after a while of working in the document, the images no longer show as being highlighted in the links panel. If I close the document and reopen, then once again things will work correctly and if I click on an image, it will be highlighted in the links panel...but then a moment later it stops working again. This is so frustrating:( It's obviously a bug. Is anyone else experiencing this?
And a quick question regarding this....is there way to search for an item in the links panel if I DO know the file name of the image, without having to scroll through hundreds of images (that also seem to be out of order - not listed alphabetically)
Thank you in advance
We previously used copies of InDesign from the US. As a result, we had a very difficult time typsetting Asian scripts until we were able to get Japanese InDesign copies.
I saw that CC has support for many languages; does this mean that we can have copies of InDesign that will work with Asian languages? Can the interface for this be English?
