Preserving styles when moving master pages

I’m trying to move a master page from one InDesign document (let’s call it Doc A) to a new InDesign doc (Doc B) but, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to do it andpreserve the styles (character & paragraph).  I’ve tried loading the styles from Doc A to Doc B before and after moving the master over; I’ve tried loading the master pages from Doc A to Doc B; I’ve tried just taking a page from Doc A and moving it to Doc B.  Every time, I get the master page in Doc B, but the styles aren’t preserved.

 

I did see earlier threads about this, but have tried what was suggested before but to no avail.

Indesign CC slows/stalls when Page panel drawing thumbnails

Upgraded to InDesign CC on a 2012 MacPro workstation with 40GB of RAM running Mountain Lion. When I have a multipage file open, InDesign slows and essentially stalls while it slowly redraws Page panel thumbnails. I can turn the thumbnails off, once it finally finishes drawing them, but they're often very useful for navigation in a long document (only about 40 pages). I've tried restarting, changing the thumbnail sizes, etc. with no real effect on the stalling.

Is there really no way to export PDFs as separate pages?

When delivering pdfs for print most of the time they want every page as a separate document.

 

I know that I can export the entire document as one pdf and then use Acrobat to split the document into separate pages.

 

But I just can't wrap my head around the fact that InDesign by the end of 2011 still won't let me achieve the same result without having to go through Acrobat (or some other app).

 

Can this really be the case? Or is there some way to achieve this?

Mini Bridge CS6 does not show subfolders in browser like CS5

I recently upgraded to CS6 and the functionality of mini bridge has changed dramatically. Here's my issues:

 

Multiple folders of images along with subfolders:

When you click on that main folder, none of the subfolders are shown within the browser window.

 

 

Keyboard commands do not follow proper folder path actions like it used to:

When you used the Command Up Arrow or Down Arrow, you could drill into and out of folder directories.  When you use this command, it does not show the next level up. Only the tiny path up on the top. So NO subfolders get shown within the browser window. It's that second window in the navigation in CS5 that was removed. Why??

Retina display support for indesign urgently needed!

I know this is been said before but indesign really is unworkable for long periods of time without getting a headache. It is a program designed for text and when that text is unreadable it's a problem. Please please please update this soon.

Phonegap_Index.html

Hi,

 

I am trying to use Adobe Phonegap to upload my Indesign App, but I get an Index.html error.  How do I include an index.html?  I don't know anything about coding, could I just have add an Article named index.html to a folio and create the app from there (I don't even know if that makes sense)

Word-like cross references?

I am in a situation where I have to maintain two types of documents. One set is all maintained in MS Word 2007. The other set is all kept in Adobe InDesign CS4 files. Cross references in Word are a simple thing.

 

I've read a lot of confusing information about cross references in ID. It would save me tons of time if ID had a feature that worked like the MS Word cross references work. Meaning, I can have one figure or table with a label that is referenced many times throughout the rest of the ID document. When a new figure or table is inserted into the file and auto numbering assigns the figure number and adjusts all those that follow, all of my references to the older figures will automatically update.

 

I've been told by my new co-workers who spend all day in ID CS4, that the cross references in ID CS4 don't work well and I have to manually edit my references if I'm unfortunate enough to have to add a new figure to an existing series of figures.

 

Anyone have some useful advice to share on this subject?

ALT Drag for Duplicate not working in CC

I use the alt (option) drag to duplicate items all the time. I just made the switch over to InDesign CC from CS6, and now it doesn't work. The odd thing though is when I hold down alt and hover over an object, my cursor does change to the double arrow, as if the duplicate function is going to work. But when I go to drag (obv. while holding down on alt), and let go, the object simply moves with no duplication occurring.

 

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Shrink image frames with page size?

Is it possible to gave the image frames I have laid out in-line thorughout a book to auto shrink proportionately with a page dimension change?

Indesign crashes randomly over very simple tasks... repeatedly.

It won't happen often, but when it happens, it will happen repeatedly and over something very small, like deleting a column, word or page, or even adding bullet points. I'm on CS6 now, but it happened on CS5 as well, I thought upgrading would stop it. Sometimes there are ways around it, but generally it just crashes a lot and severely frustrates me.

 

This is the error report for one of the crashes.

I've tried splitting files, exporting as IDML, and deleting the ID preferences & save data.

 

Please help!

Mac compatibility

I received my Windows CS6 from an external who edited it on a Mac. Now working with this file on the Windows PC is almost impossible. Change from pointer to text edit menus takes minutes. Text editing is only possible character by character, mouse marking not possible - so slow.

Fonts have stayed unchanged.

Don't know what to do.

Global setup seems similar to the origin file (which works perfect as before)

 

Please help!

Hand Tool...

My "Hand Tool" has gone crazy...

Everytime when I use my "Space Bar" to navigate through my page with the "Hand Tool" it doesn't come back to the "Black Arrow" so I have to click "esc" everytime I move arround and it's pretty annoying!!!! it's making me crazy.... Anyone know how to change the "Hand Tool" preset or the "Space Bar" to stop doing that? Ta! Gizy0981

InDesign CC - some keyboard shortcuts not working

Some of the keyboard shortcuts are not working.

 

Tab (shift-cmd-T) works once after selecting it from the menu thereafter it don't work until you select it from the menu again.

 

Align text:

 

Left (shift-cmd-L) don't work

Right (shift-cmd-R) works

Centre (shift-cmd-C) works

Justified (shift-cmd-J) works

 

Is it just me or is anyone else having the same issue

InDesign-CC: Selection Tools Not Working

I've just downloaded InDesign CC and am having a problem with the various selection tools.

 

With the Text Selection Tool active, I double-click a text frame and hold, and the cursor is placed on the text inside the frame. But I can no longer drag from where the cursor is to highlight the text.

 

When I click again to start highlighting the text, the text itself becomes inactive, the text frame becomes active and my attempt to highlight drags the frame. The tool panel shows that the Text Selection Tool is still active.

 

Once I double click into the text frame, the only way I can edit text is to use Shift + arrows.

 

In Preferences > Type I have enabled and disabled the "Triple Click to Select a Line", but there is no change in the behavior described above.

 

Similarly, if I switch to the Hand Tool and grab a portion of the page, the frame I happen to be over moves instead of the page. Grabbing on a part of the page where there is no frame does nothing at all.

 

In fact, this behavior is the same no matter which tool in the toobar I have active: the Rectangle Tool does not draw a rectangle, but moves the text frame; same with the Pencil Tool, etc.

 

The document itself was upgrade from CS6, but creating a new document does not change the behavior.

I've followed the instructions in the Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences article <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990>, dleted the InDesign Defaults file and restarted, but that has made no difference.

 

At this point, ID-CC is thoroughly unusable.

 

Running Mac OS 10.8.4, 16gigs RAM.

How to fix some scripts not working just in CC?

Tried to use a well known script in IDCC:

 

TurnGrepStyles2CharStyles.jsx

 

and not worked; but in CS6 it was running.

Apple Magic Mouse and ID

I've recently purchased the lovely Apple Magic Mouse and am finding it quite difficult to use with InDesign CS4 - other ID versions would be the same I imagine. With this mouse you scroll by stroking its top surface, rather like a trackpad. This is excellent in other applications but in ID, because the pasteboard area is so large and the sensitivity of the mouse so high (even when scrolling is turned down to the minimum in its preferences), it's very easy to make your document shoot sideways off the screen. I expect Illustrator would have similar problems.

 

Is there a way in which the ID pasteboard can be resized or constrained? Maybe someone will come up with a prefs panel to control the new mouse's scrolling more precisely - but not yet.

New Suitcase plugin?

Does anyone know if and when a new Extensis Suitcase plugin will be availabe? I copied the CS6 plugin into InDesign hoping that might work.

 

Is there a good alternative to Suitcase? Does Adobe do one?
