Hi. I'm working on an API for a client, and keeping change log notes on the pasteboard. When I paste in the programmer's notes to a text box, they cause an overset in the text box (fig 1).

 

There are no nearby graphics or text wraps involved -- pure text box in a wide-open area of the pasteboard.

 

When I look at the text in the Story Editor, the overset is plain (fig 2):

 

 

I don't think it's Word formatting that is causing the problem. I have pasted the text into NotePad and saved it, and then copied the text from NotePad and pasted the "plain" text into the text box, and get the same result at the same point. I think it's the characters being used in the text provided by the programmer that is causing the overset, but I don't understand why. What do I have to change to get this text to paste into a plain text box?

     Greetings. I've Used InDesign4 since 2009 as part of CS4. I recently had to upgrade my Mac OS past that InDesign's usable platform to OS 10.13.5 but figured I might still be able to use it, in the same way that installing a legacy Java has allowed me to continue using my old Dreamweaver program with my Mac's new OS.

     Having the Java installed has allowed the InDesign program to open also, but it doesn't function. Old or new files don't open; the side windows (paragraph, chacters, layers, etc.) are not populated.

      An Adobe Forum search led me to https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.htm, where Adobe has posted a supposed work-around for operating Creative Suite 5.5, 5, and 4 on High Sierra by mounting the Disk Image file for the Creative Suite application and dragging "the Unix executable to the Terminal."

    I'm not a techhie but can follow a map pretty well. I entered my license number and now have the CS4 DMG on my Mac. However, the above link states I should "Right-click Install.app and select Open Package Contents from the context menu"--and when I right-click on the DMG, I receive no such option (nor do I see an "Install.app" at any point." So all I can currently do is open the DMG naturally, which prompts the non-functioning InDesign CS4 to open on the screen.

    Suggestions? Other work-arounds?

hello everyone, i'm still learning how to use InDesign and i have too many questions so i'll start with the very first issue.. can i modify a PDF file using Indesign? it says that there is a missing module. i couldn't get over it can anyone tell me what to do or send me a tutorial for begginers?

When we try to start up Adobe indesign, the spinning wheel appears for a long time

• Which operating system do you have?  macOS 10.13.4
• Which Adobe application and version is crashing?  Adobe Indesign CC 2018
• What if any error messages are you receiving?  No error
• What were you doing just prior to the application crash?  Nothing, just trying to start up

Since today the color picker is not shown in my tool bar on the left (inDesign). How can I add the color picker again to tool bar?

Hello Everybody

 

I have several files saved on Google drive which have many pictures and pdfs linked to them from the same folder on Google Drive.

Whenever I reopen the files I can still see the pictures but it seems that the links are missing (red questionmark sign) and even though I re-link them, the next time I open the same file, the links are gone again.

My question is why does it do that and how can I prevent this?

I do open the files on different computers but allways at different times. Could it be that that is the problem?

I am putting the csv file and the images in the same folder, yet when I try to merge data, the text comes in fine, but the images are not found. I have also tried to list an absolute path. I got it to work once, but have not been able to duplicate. Also, and maybe this is another question. the images all now need to be updated when I reopen the file, but it only allows me to update one at a time. Usually, if there were multiple images to update in one folder, I was able to update all in one click. Thanks for any insight.

I'm trying to do a couple of things:

1. insert variable text field on the master page to generate image name (layer name, not actual file name)

2. Lock frame positions in the master (prevent manual positioning in pages)

 

Here's what I tried:

1. On master page, insert variable text "Image Name", as layer "model"

2. On master page, create a frame to hold the image, as layer "image"

3. Create some pages, drag some images into frames

4. The text renders as "No intersecting link" in both master and pages

5. Create the same variable text, directly on a page (not in the master)

6. Text renders the image filename rather than the slug/layer name (sofa 1501, bed 1601)

 

The other thing I'm trying to do is to prevent manual positioning of the frames so that they don't move around when I drag/position images into them

Good afternoon,

 

I'm working  in indesign cc 2018 and create an interactive pdf (restaurant menu) file with popup, menus, scroll down interactive actions. but when I open it in the tablet nothing work..

how can I fix this problem? and what if I export it to epub, how I can open the file in the Samsung tablet or iPad??

 

I'm thinking to do the menu in adobe xd but I have zero experience in andriod studio, is there any easy software that I can use to do the application?

Is anyone else not able to make arrows after the most recent update?? I updated today to 13.1 and now cannot create an arrow on either end of the line, nor change the stroke type (dashed, dotted,etc). Anyone have any ideas or experience anything similar?

Come scritto nel titolo della domanda quando inserisco un'immagine da usare come sfondo del documento spariscono i testi. Rimangono le selezioni rettangolari che li contenevano ma i testi spariscono completamente.
Ho provato in tutti i modi, ma il risultato è sempre lo stesso. Ho creato il mio opuscolo con testi e immagini. Le immagini riesco a posizionarle in primo piano, i testi no. Ho provato inserendo i livelli, riducendo l'opacità, disponi -> ordina in 1 priano, guide su internet e youtube. Tutto inutile.

Spero di sbagliare qualcosa io, non ci credo che non ho la possibilità di impostare gli sfondi come ultimo passaggio per la creazione di un documento. Anche perchè è stato voluto, sto preparando un opuscolo e ho seguito questo iter proprio per valutare quale sia il migliore tra diversi sfondi che ho selezionato.

Hi,

 

I am have a real problem, copy and paste between files is not working and Indesign crashes when I do a paste.

 

Let me explain:

 

Did an upgrade of Indesign CC in Wednesday

Worked on a number of file and everything was find.

Did and upgrade of Windows 10 on Thursday and still everything was working well.

Saturday - working on two files that I was working on, on Thursday.  But when I copy the artwork from one file and go and paste it into another file indesign just crashes.

 

I have, just to let you the reader know, that I have uninstalled and reinstalled Indesign and that has made no difference

 

I really would appreciate any help and advice with this.

Hi,

 

Today my InDesign started crashing whenever using shortcuts for copy, paste and cut within a text window.  Pasting text into a text pane doesn't work while trying to copy or cut text leads directly to the application crashing.  This, as you can imagine, is not great.  I've updated.  I re-installed, I deleted all preferences on a fresh install and still the issue persists.

 

Any idea what is going on?

I'm using InDesign CC 2018 and am trying to open 7 files by dragging them to the InDesign icon. It opens 6 of them and then I get the "cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active" pop-up. The problem is that I can't find a modal window, so I can't close it.

 

 

I know that's vague but that's exactly what's happening. I'm on a 2017 iMac running High Sierra.

hi, i set up a go to next page and previous page.  i test on acrobat on the ipad and it does not work. it used to work. did something change?

Hello Adobe world,

 

I am hoping that you guys can help me out. I am working in an Indesign file, we have some pricing tables for a client that they update the excel pricing sheet, and then we are setting up their sales sheets that get professionally printed with the linked data from excel.

 

One of the tabs (possible more, but my brain is dead from trying to figure this out) when I go to import the range of data A1:F10, it keeps importing that data, and then there was 4 additional columns of blank cells. It is like Indesign is importing A1:J10, but that is not what I am asking to import from that particular worksheet.

 

What I have tried so far:

1. I have completely copied and pasted the content into a newly created tab in excel, along with stripped all formatting for new worksheet, i have also deleted the extra columns in excel just incase any hidden characters where in a random cell.
2. I have also tried to import using other table styles we have setup, and tried to import using no table style.
3. I DO NOT have checked/selected the import option "Import hidden Cells Not Saved in View", and there are no hidden columns in this excel worksheet.

 

I do not know how it is bypassing the range I am selecting, but i am hoping that someone out that has something very simple that I am just over looking. I know that we can delete these columns once we import but we are updating these quite frequently and when we refresh the link, the 4 extra columns come back.
