Tabs Inserted in Front of XML Elements

I am importing an XML document into InDesign (CS6). All works well except InDesign places a tab space every time it encounters an opening XML element, even when after I remove tab spaces in the source XML file.

 

This is what is different about my problem and others I have seen pop up on the Internet. Usually, the tab spaces appear in the source XML file and the user wants them removed.  My problem is that InDesign inserts tab spaces in front of each tag regardless of whether an actual tab appears in the source file.

 

Whe importing, I am using the following options:

 

  • Clone repeating text elements
  • Do not import contents of whitespace-only elements

 

All others are not checked off, although I have tried numerous combinations of checking on and off of options.

 

The paragraph style declarations that I have mapped to each tag have no tabs declared, so I don't think that is the problem.

 

If I remove the tabs manually inside InDesign then re-import the XML, it does not re-insert the tab spaces and the content looks fine. So this isn't a problem that I can't correct with some effort. But I somehow must be doing something wrong.

 

So, what is it I am missing here?

Digital Publication Video Overlay

I am making a digital publication and I would like to have the video player show on top of the video while it's playing. I set it to do this in the media panel and when I preview it, it shows the overlay properly but when I view it on the iPad, the overlay is not available. This makes it impossible for me to change to full screen or pause... Any idea why this is happening? I am using a custom poster if that provides any clue.

 

I also notice whenever I use preview and I quit out with the X in the upper right corner, it crashes the program and I get an error message. This has no effect on my ability to work but it's an annoyance. Is this fixable? I am on windows.

Where are my scripts?

I did a standard downloaded install of CS6 via Creative Cloud, but I've just discovered that I don't have any scripts available to me inside the app, despite there appearing to be scripts in the Scripts Panel inside the ID CS6 apps folder. How do I make them available? And if all my CS5.5 ones aren't installed, what's best practice for copying them to CS6?

Indesign 6: Saving in idml format

When I try to save (or export a file) in idml format, indesign CS6 prodcues a 124-byte file that contains simple "No Editor".

What do I do?

Can I link the length of a line to a value in a spreadsheet?

I want to creat a document in which there are several lines, and I would like to be able to set the length of those lines by linking each to a value in a spreadsheet.  Is that possible?

I have recently downloaded the trial of indesign cc, so i deleted the indesidn cs4 trial. Now files saved in indesign cc are unrecognizable to windows. How do i fix this?

How do I replace font colors across the whole document?

So I know how to change a certain font across the whole document.

I can replace let's say, Times New Roman with Arial throughout the whole document.

However, what if I want to replace a font color?

For example, I want to change the black 0,0,0,0 with black 40,30,30,100 across the whole document, instead of searching one by one and replacing the existing color.

 

I'm using CS5 on PC

Table on several pages

Hello,

I'm using indesign CS6 and I'd like my table to continue on 2,3 or more pages automatically depending on the content of the cells (ie. if content doesn't fit on one page due large amount of text in the table cells, the table would continue on page 2,3,4, etc.

Is it possible? How could I achieve this?

I'm trying to update my website: www.lamodademiami.com. When I first started a couple of years ago I didn't have a lot of money and I designed my own website. But now I would like to update my home page to drawn more attention. I'm not sure which designs I should be looking at. I'm completely lost as to what I should do. Can anyone suggest any low cost website designers or any suggests that I might be able to use? Thanks.

ID ePUB export converts all *inline* anchored JPEG images to PNG?

During ePUB export, when Image Conversion = Automatic, anchored JPEG images with Position = Inline are converted to PNG. If Anchored Object Position = Custom, the same images stay JPEG. Anyone know a better way to avoid than the less-than-ideal options below?

 

Less than idea options:

 

a) Use Image Conversion = JPEG (would also convert existing .gif and .png images)

 

b) Specify Object Export Options for each image frame that contains a JPEG.

 

Maybe this is just a bug.

InDesign 6: When exporting to PDF - error message fix a pixels/picas

InDesign 6: When exporting to PDF - get error message to go into Preferences and fix a pixels/picas issue - I've been working in the same project for two days and exporting pages all along without this trouble - just started all of a sudden.  Haven't changed any settings...  How can I fix this?

Which fonts does CS6 require to run?

My list of active system fonts is enormous. InDesign, Illustrator, etc., require certain fonts to run properly. I don't know which are ABSOLUTELY required. I tried guessing, and I failed, miserably.

My question is: which fonts can be safely deactivated… or better, still, which are needed?

Or where can I find out. I do use Suitcase Fusion, which gives me control ove OSX fonts.

I do use a Mac running OS X 10.8.4.

ID cs6 transitions

Im fairly knew to ID cs6 and am trying to make a slideshow with  transitions. when I apply a transition to a page, then go to  presentation, it wont play the transition. Is this how it works? i did  read in a response to a question, that for one to see the transitions  one would first have to export as a pdf then view it full screen to see  the transition? why cant one see the transitions whilst one is working  on the slideshow right in ID? and if you can , please let me know how  to. I also want to add transitions to text box and have no idea how to. most of my slideshows will have full page image as the background persay, so would I have to add transitions to the image itself as oppsed to the page? my slideshow will be 16:9 ratio.

I have installed indesign cc and indesign cc(64bit) on a windows 7 64 bit OS. when I try to draw a text box, indesign closes giving application error.

InDesign CC selected text color

I've just started using INDD CC and am having a problem. When I select text in my document the background color is a dark blue (which is fine) BUT the text itself remains whatever color is assigned to it. So if the text is black and I select the text I get black text on dark blue and you can't see the seclected text (see screen capture below). In previous versions (and every other program in the world) the selected text would reverse out in white. Is anyone else having this issue? Is there a way of changing this? The way it is now the new INDD CC is unusable because of this "bug" (?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

I'm using INDD CC (64 bit) on a PC running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit). I've checked my graphics card driver and it's up to date.

Bleeds Problem

Hi guys,

I don't know what can be wrong with my file. I did follow this tutorial:

step by step in setting bleeds and pdf configuration export but nevertheless when i export the PDF my bleeds marging is NOT there. This is the result i get.

By the way this online tutorial has a Source File in InDesign. When i donwload and open the original file InDesign file and repeat the very same export to PDF without modifying ANY setting i still get the NO BLEEDS. The problem persist.

 

Could it be my InDesign export PDF pluging is corrupt somehow? I am using InDesign CS 6 for Mac OSX 10.7.5

 

 

Any help or ideas?

Changing page order within sections

Hello,

 

Easy question I hope, but it's driving me nuts!  I have a document with three alternate layouts.  They are named iPad H, iPad V and Android.  Each section has 4 pages.

 

My client now wants the last page in the layout to become the first page.  So I need to move my page 4s so that they become my page 1s. (3 sections - 3 page 1s, 3 page 4s)

 

Can someone please give me the steps to do this so I don't screw up the sections? 

 

I've tried all the options I can think of, including just dragging the pages, using the 'move' command' in the pages panel flyout, changing the numbering and section options and various combinations of 'allow doc pages to shuffle' and 'allow spread to shuffle' but each time I do, I end up screwing up the sections.  It seems like page 1 of iPad V and Android mark the beginning of those layouts and I need to change that.

 

Changing the page order in the first layout (iPad H) works fine - it's the other 2 that screw up.

 

Thanks for any advice! I'm on CS6 on a mac.

Sliding Nav InDesign CS6

Hi,

 

I have created a sliding navigation using the bottom margin and motion path tweening. I have  grouped bunches of buttons inside the sliding panel which takes the user to respective pages upon clicking the buttons. It does work but my sliding navigation panel it doesnt stay in place when it moves up. What is missing?

InDesign crashes when we export to ePub

We are in the middle of an ebook conversion from a print layout (INDB and associated INDD and image files) to epub and mobi for a customer. We are in the part of our workflow where we export to ePub and then go back to InDesign to fix problems that remain. It has been exported to ePub dozens of times. Suddenly (about 5 days ago) InDesign started to crash every time we exported the file to ePub. Even if we go back and open an older version of the file. We replicated the problem on a PC also, so it happens on both Mac and PC (InDesign quits). We contacted Adobe and they got us to update to the latest version of CS6 but it hasn’t made any difference. Has anyone else had a problem like this? What can we do about it?
