Please help!

I have a jpeg image that I'm trying to place on a double page spread on indesign. The image is 5906x1378 pixels (3.3MB) - but only the first third of the image shows up.

I have tried fitting the content in different ways, I've tried changing the display performance.. I just can't work it out.

When I export my indesign document to pdf, I get the message

error encountered while reading jpg image- image problem

The challenge is that it doesn't say which image is the problem, and I have hundreds of images in the document.

Does anyone know how to find the right image? Help! :-)

Anyone else seeing these issues?

Since upgrading to CS 5.5 several months ago about half of my company has been experiencing errors in InDesign specifically where files become corrupted for no reason, InDesign force closes, can't copy and paste in or out of InDesign, and a whole bunch of other issues. Below you'll find a list of issues currently experienced throughout my company. What is strange is that only about half of the users are experiencing these issues and no one experienced these issues prior to upgrading from CS3 to CS 5.5.

If anyone is having similar issues, knows the root cause of such issues, or has come up with a solution to any of these issues please let me know as we are currently perplexed as what to do next. Our IT department knows little to nothing about Creative Suite so they are of no help. As somewhat of a superuser i've been tasked with coming up with potential fixes to said issues.

Please let me know if you'd like any clarification or further explaination of errors and I'll try my best to provide what I know.

Known Issue #1: Cannot Print to PDF

Command/Steps: File – Print – Select Adobe PDF from Printer dropdown

Additional Info: file then freezes and has to force close. Sometimes results in corrupted file/no auto recovery of file

*Note: files are usually not packaged before exporting. Unknown if this has any effect.

Known Issue #2: Files Not Packaging Properly. When packaging a file, the fonts and links will package but when on the last step of saving a new version of the file to the packaged folder, InDesign freezes and then an error message pops up saying “InDesign has encountered a problem and needs to close.” It then force closes. When trying to re-open the file, the temporary file is still active and the file comes up corrupted. You can then not package or save the file, thus losing the file. InDesign does not auto-recover “clean” file but rather the corrupted file.

Command/Steps: File – Package – Copy Fonts, Copy Linked Graphics and Update Graphic Links In Package boxes checked before packaging.

Known Issue #3: InDesign suddenly freezing. An error message pops up saying “InDesign has encountered a problem and needs to close.” It then force closes. When trying to re-open the file, the temporary file is still active and the file sometimes comes up corrupted. You can then not package or save the file, thus losing the file. InDesign does not auto-recover “clean” file but rather the corrupted file. Other times, the file is recovered, however, it may have damaged links or images associated with that file.

Additional Info:

  • happens to files located both on and off the server
  • occurs on packaged and unpackaged files
  • occurs across multiple files (not just one file)
  • file sizes vary
  • Has occurred when trying to update or change fonts in the document (HMH)

Known Issue #4: Invalid images in files. When trying to print, save, or PDF, an error message pops up saying “InDesign has encountered an invalid .jpg. Please save the file with different formatting and relink in your document;” followed by the “InDesign has encountered a problem and needs to close” error. It then force closes. When trying to reopen and after updating, you then get an error message that says “Error encountered while reading jpeg image. Image may be damaged or incompatible. Resave with different settings and try again.” The file then becomes corrupted.

Additional Info:

  • Even after updating the file, sometimes it will still say an image is invalid

Known Issue #5: Unable to copy and/or paste in and out of InDesign to/from other documents

Command/Steps: Edit – copy or Edit – Paste (ctrl+c or ctrl+v)

Known Issue #6: Cannot export as one or more images are open in a background tasks

Command/Steps: File – export

Hey everyone,

This has been driving me crazy for a few hours, so please help.  I have a curved path that I am trying to line up with a straight line.  Instead of snapping middle to middle, it wants to snap the top edge to the middle, like so:

Adobe Indesign CC 2014 crash on launch

Hi I use this program as well as photoshop, illustrator and muse on a near-constant daily basis. Indesign has suddenly started crashing on launch - the rest of the apps still operate without issue.
I've restarted, reinstalled indesign, disabled all fonts except system fonts - not too sure what the deal is but will need this up and running again asap.

Only significant change that's happened today is I updated a Sony game.

I'm not sure if the below info will provide insight - let me know if there's any further info I can provide.

I just uninstalled InDesign CS6 (no cloud) without deactivating. When I tried to reinstall, my serial number was "revoked." I tried to reinstall but the "deactivate" was greyed out.

How do I get my serial number to work? I'm only using the product on one computer.

Pdf con più pagine

Buongiorno a tutti.

Using InDesign CC, my cursor is not changing to allow me to drag table rows or columns to a new order. What am I missing? I use the text tool, get the black arrow to select a whole column, move into that column and all I see is the insert text icon.

Thanks,

Phil

Big Brother Big Sister were all good

Recently I undertake to an Arabic typesetting character, so I downloaded and installed InDesign CC Middle East edition, the interface language is English, English I am very poor, there is no way to turn the Middle East version of the language change into simplified Chinese version or let Chinese version supports Arabic writing and publishing.

Can't create cross-document cross-reference

$

Hi all,

In my ongoing battles with iD, here's another. I want to make a cross reference to another document in the same book, sort of "see the Light section starting page xxx". I have my Light document open at the same time as the one I am currently editing and I clicked on new cross-reference. I also have some of the other documents of the book open. In the Cross-Reference panel, where I choose Link To and Destination I have Paragraph to link to a Para Style, but when I change the destination to my Light doc it switches immediately back to the doc I'm in. It will stay on some of the other docs that are open, but that's not the point, it won't stay on the one I want. I have recently exported this whole book as IDML to sort out a different problem (not that it did) and now have this to contend with as well.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Baseline Grid Not Visible & Keyboard Shortcut Broken...

I've noticed in InDesign CS5, the keyboard shortcut for viewing the baseline grid is not working. I can do the shortcut but the option is not checked off under the menu. Also the baseline grids are not showing up at all. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going on?

P.S. I'm running CS5 on a 2014 Macbook Pro Retina with OS 10.9.5

Thanks ahead of time!

Is there a faster way to kern a body of text in InDesign?

I have too much space in between the letters and words. I want to adjust the kerning so it's a bit tighter, but it looks like I can only adjust each space separately. If I have a line or the entire paragraph selected, I'm unable to make adjustments. It will take forever if I go in between each letter. Is there a faster way to do this?

Justify page break. HELP!

I am designing a directory in InDesign, I have it justified top to bottom. Is there a way to do a soft return or other option to bring a listing to the top of the next column and then increase the leading in the previous column so the text stays lined to the top and bottom? I used to be able to do this in Quark--but can not figure it out in InDesign. HELP!

Indesign 2014 startup too slowly

$

Since June, Indesign 2014 has been opened too slowly at startup.

I wait usually about 5 minutes and if it still isn't opened, shut it down at task manager and start again. At the second time the program usually opens faster (1-2 minutes).

All this is embarassing. My computer is fairly well for adobe software, the problem is in something else.

By the way, the former Indesign (CC) is still on my system too. May be there has to remain only one? In fact I don't use Indesign CC, so can I uninstall it? will it have any influence to proper working of Indesign 2014?

My Indesign will not start up

I moved a bunch of stuff off my computer and went to open one of my InDesign files. The file did not have its usual InDesign Icon and would not respond when clicked on...

I then went to InDesign in my Applications Folder, and clicked on the Indesign Icon, which did not open the program either.

What do I do?

Unformattable Indesign text - how to remove unwanted spaces between paragraphs?

$
0
0

I have a 95 page indesign document. I have some unwanted spaces between paragraphs. I have been unable to get rid of these spaces. I have attempted to override formatting, using the paragraph styles window, but in this case indesign does not even recognize the formatting. I have paragraphs formatted to 0p0 before and after paragraphs and yet a space still remains between certain paragraphs. I am going crazy!

The problem lies in the text being imported in strange formatt, yet this was like five years ago and I don't even have access to the original text to try to import it once more. Maybe because it is a document for Indesign c5 and now I am using c6?

Any help gratefully appreciated,

Sam
