Delete Anchor Point Not Working Right (I call it "wonky")

I am having a really big problem with the delete anchor point tool. In my versions of InDesign CS and CS2, I could use the Direct Selection Tool to hover over a container with a picture. Then you get the little hand symbol and you can click to select the object inside the container, and as I have set the clipping path to the Photoshop clip path, I can see the clipping path. Then I could use the Delete Anchor Point Tool to click on the control points I want to delete and they disappear (this also happens correctly when modifying a text wrap which is offset from the clip path). And it worked great and I could quickly delete points no problem.

But now in CS4 (I skipped CS3), things don't work as well. For about 80% of my control points, I cannot get the Delete Anchor Point Tool to delete the point. I click and click and nothing happens. What I end up doing is switching to the Direct Selection Tool, manually choosing the single point I want to delete, and then moving it to a new location. Then I am finally able to use the Delete Anchor Point Tool to get rid of the control point. Problem is, as I say, I am doing this waaaaay too often. It seems to work better if I zoom really tight or if I use the option key (on a Mac) in conjunction with the Direct Selection Tool so that all of the control points become solid.

This happened on my Power Mac G5 and on my Intel iMac. Any thoughts?

P.S.

I could swear there used to be an FAQ on here for each program category in the forums. I looked and looked but did not find it. Did it move?
