seeking multi-sided gradient feather

Hi

I need to blend many images into background color, but not only on one side. Often I need to blend them on at least 2 sides: let's say, from left to right, *and* from top down. But InDesign's gradient feather works only in one direction. Yes, there's the radial option, but I'm usually not happy with its results. And the directional gradient doesn't work either--its gradations are way too blunt.

Is there a way to achieve multi-sided gradations that go from 100% to zero via InDesign's gradient feather? Or a workaround?

Or should I submit this as a New Feature Request?
