Different footnotes styles in one document - another approach

I'm working on a book that contains two types of footnotes:

• original footnotes by the author of a book  - up to three on a spread, numbering restarts every spread
• additional notes from the editor of the current edition - consistent numbering accross whole story

I've prepared two different paragraph styles for them. Both kinds of footnotes may appear on a single page (some of them are even nested - the editor comments author's notes, but let's leave it for now).

I'm aware that InDesign does not support multiple footnote styles. I've searched for possible workaround on this forum and on the web, but could't find a satisfying solution. Then I tryied on my own - my attempts are described below. It would be great if someone could suggest any better solution or correct my approach:

A. Using standard footnotes feature for first style and anchored objects for second one:

1. Creating anchored text frames from some footnotes
2. Applying object style that moves them to the bottom of the main text frame
3. Applying paragraph style with numbering
4. Creating a cross-reference (working as reference number in text) pointing to the paragraph number

That works fine with one exception - if there is more than one fake-footnote on a page (and oh yes, there are), they simply overlap, instead of being stacked at the bottom of the main text frame. I hoped to solve that using text wrap property, however it turned out that text wrap does not work between two anchored objects. Adjusting their position manually would be a pain in case of any changes.

B. Leaving all footnotes as footnotes, but hiding their numbers

1. Leaving both types of footnotes as standard InDesign footnotes (so that they will be placed properly at the bottom of the text)
2. Hiding a reference number in the text and a footnote number using character style
3. Appling two different paragraph styles to footnotes text, with two different numbering styles
4. Creating a cross-reference as in solution A and placing it after hidden reference number

That one seemed to be quite clever, until I found out that paragraph numbering does not work across footnotes (every footnote is numbered as "1"). InDesign seems to treat them as separate stories, regardless of the settings of numbering lists. Aaargh.

C. Leaving all footnotes as footnotes, hiding their numbers, creating achored objects with reference numbers

1. Leaving both types of footnotes as standard footnotes - as in solution B
2. Hiding a reference number in the text and a footnote number - as in solution B
3. Appling two different paragraph styles to footnotes text, but without any numbering
4. Inserting an anchored text frame after every (hidden) reference number in the text
5. Applying numbering to that anchored text frames (using paragraph style)
6. Inserting a cross-reference at the beginning of every footnote text, pointing to the paragraph number of the corresponding anchored text frame

That may actually work, but for me it's neither elegant nor reliable. At the moment I'm stuck with finding a way to insert cross-references into footnotes texts automatically (there are about 250 footnotes, so that would be helpful).

So, that's where I am at the moment. Any advices?
