How to create a pattern and apply it in InDesign.

Hello,

I need to create and apply patterns in InDesign but can't find information or tutorials on how to do it.

For my project I need to save an image as a pattern and then apply it to objects created in InDesign with the pen tool. The shapes will be different so I need to have the pattern image stretched and adapted to the shape of the object I create with the pen tool.

What is the easiest way to accomplish this task ?

I am currently using InDesign CS6 in case this is relevant.
