I am looking to use InDesign to add intelligent mail barcodes to pieces which we print as variable data. I have seen that their are fonts available for this procedure but wonder how InDesign will handle that, since most of them only reference usage in Word, Works, etc. We are a commercial printer with mailroom on site. The mailroom can supply me with a database that would include the intelligent mail barcode string (i.e. ADFFTTFTTFAADFFADTATAATTTATDDFTAATADDAATTDDTTFFAFADFTAAFTDFTATAFA) I would then need to use merge to populate a unique address block on each piece using the barcode strings provided. Is this possible with only the use of the font? My company would rather spend the $139 for the font than splurge the $3000 for XMPie (which is understandable) but I want to make sure that using the font only will work with the postal specs. Has anyone successfully pulled off this process without the use of third party software? Thanks in advance for any help or advice!!
