Overriding master item issues

At the magazine I publish we've just upgraded our equipment from CS4 running on PCs to CS6 running on Macs.

I've just completed moving our templates over to the new system and discovered that whereas ctrl+shift+click would unlock individual master items on a PC, cmd+shift+click will not unlock the same items on the same template on the Mac.

I've read related posts on the subject and I don't want to get into a debate about "what I should be using master items for". It's useful to have master items that the page designers can modify (issue dates etc) but that the sub-editors can't accidentally reposition or enter wrong information into. Likewise, I don't want them going into the master pages and overriding ALL the items.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks, Andy
