Why do I lose paragraph styles when converting table to text?

This is a big day. Its my first EVER forum post. I cant find what I'm looking for anywhere so here goes..

The issue is this:

INDESIGN 5.

I have a table.

I select a column and then apply a character style sheet to that column. If I convert that table to text, the charachert styles I applied to the text will stay. Brilliant.

BUT

If I select a column and apply a paragraph style to it, then convert the table to text, the paragraph style is gone!

This is driving me nuts. I cant find anything anywhere?!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
